Most Americans know that the planet is in dire danger under the current administration. As several parts of the country have recently been devastated by severe hurricanes, the Republican Party and their disgraceful leader are still denying that manmade global warming is a real issue that the world is facing. And fortunately, they got publicly blasted for it last night.
Last night’s Hand In Hand telethon gathered numerous celebrities for a fundraiser aimed at bringing relief to people and areas ravaged by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Due to such obvious connections to the environment and climate change, it was no surprise that this event became politically charged from the second it started. And the catalyst to that tone was none other than legendary performer Stevie Wonder.
Before he began his performance, Wonder launched the telethon with a message to viewers – and Donald Trump. Holding up his performance, Wonder made sure to blast Trump and his conservative minions in a speech that was covered by all major networks. Going after the bigotry that has infiltrated the White House, Wonder said:
“We’ve come together today to love on the people who have been devastated by the hurricanes. When love goes into action, it preferences no color of skin, no ethnicity, no religious beliefs, no sexual preferences, and no political persuasions. It just loves.”
Then, he stated that Trump and his anti-global warming peers are “blind” and “unintelligent”:
“As we should begin to love and value our planet. And anyone who believes that there’s no such thing as global warming must be blind or unintelligent. Lord, save us all.”
