    News, Politics

When former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon resigned not too long ago, the entire country wondered what it might mean for Donald Trump’s presidency. We’re just finding out, thanks to a recent 60 Minutes interview on CBS, that it’s not going to be good.

When CBS’ Charlie Rose asked Bannon about Trump and his weak response to the aftermath of the violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, no one could have predicted what came out of Bannon’s mouth. While many Americans would likely bet on Bannon giving an equally weak statement because he doesn’t want to piss off his racist Breitbart fanbase, Bannon pretty much did the opposite – and even hurt Trump in the process.

Bannon responded that Trump had been trying to tie in the debate about Confederate monuments when he made those remarks, which apparently didn’t make it through thanks to Trump’s inability to communicate like a grown up. Then, Bannon shocked everyone by bluntly calling neo-Nazis, neo-Confederates and KKK members “awful” people. In a statement that was everything Trump should have said, Bannon responded:

“There’s no room in American society for that.”

This statement is certainly shocking coming from someone like Bannon, who has been notably racist himself. Whether or not he actually believes or means what he’s saying, the damage to Trump has been done as Bannon has called out and condemned Trump’s biggest fan base. You can watch two clips from the interview below:
