Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was a policy introduced by Obama back in 2012 which allowed illegal immigrants who enter USA as children to apply for work permits. They had to renew their status every 2 years. Obama believed that those who entered the country as children were at no fault of their own, and thus they shouldn’t be deported. However, Trump was always against such an approach. His primary agenda during the election campaign was to drive immigrants out of the country.
Trump ended the DACA act on Tuesday leaving the fate of 800,000 ‘Dreamers’ uncertain. His order disallows new applications for the program.
The policy will be phased out by 5th of March 2018. This gives Congress six months to decide what their course of action will be. If it works as planned by Trump, all Dreamers will lose their status by 2020.
Trump said, “I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents. But we must also recognize that we are a nation of opportunity because we are a nation of laws.”
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Trump’s decision and said, “To have a lawful system of immigration that serves the national interest, We cannot admit everyone who would like to come here. It’s just that simple.”
Congress, get ready to do your job – DACA!

The amateur president’s decision triggered nationwide protests. The Governor of New York announced that he will sue Trump if he ends the act. Students organized a protest march against the President. Twitter also reacted harshly:
Remember, the decision to cancel DACA is all Trump. Sessions is just the willing white nationalist who jumped at the chance to announce it.

Donald Trump is saying in every way possible that power in America is white, straight and male and all else are targets. #DACA

We see what you’re doing, Jeff Sessions, by repeatedly calling fellow humans “illegal aliens.” We reject your attempt to dehumanize. #DACA

Jeff Sessions talking about teaching new immigrants our “cultural understandings” is not a good look.

If you want to try to spin this as compassionate, don’t think Jefferson Beauregard Sessions is your best choice.

Today’s another reminder why Sessions stuck it out through his turn at ritual humiliation.
