Republicans Respond To Shooting By Asking Taxpayers For More Money To Provide Security For Themselves

Instead of showing sympathy and actually doing something to permit shootings like in Alexandria from happening again, Republicans demand taxpayers pay even more money to protect well…the GOP.

The Washington Post reported, “In the wake of Wednesday’s shooting, lawmakers are pushing to be allowed to use taxpayer funds to boost security at their personal homes and during events in their districts.”

In other words, Republicans are not concerned for the safety of Americans–their only priority is making sure their rich friends are as safe as can be. How inconsiderate can one possibly be?

Members of Congress got a dose of the gun violence epidemic in their own country, and their first thought was not that they needed to take a serious look at the issue to see if there is anything that can be done from a policy perspective or to possibly get it resolved quicker. Heaven forbid if they ever did that. No, the first thought that went through their heads is ‘how do I guarantee my own safety?” Oh, I know, let me just ask taxpayers to cough up more money for my own personal benefit.

Gun violence is a cultural problem in the United States. Will changing rules and regulations alone help solve the issue,no– but it most definitely be part of any solution. Simply saying: ‘you pay for my security,’ is not going to cut it.
