In the midst of Donald Trump’s disastrous turn of events, Vice President Mike Pence is taking advantage of the White’s House’s downfall to begin building his own political war revenue.
On Wednesday, Pence launched Great America Committee, a leadership PAC, that will enable him to channel money to congressional Republicans ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
While it is highly unusual for vice presidents to set up their own fundraising vehicles, Pence is taking matters into his own hands, according to a report by Bloomberg.
“Neither Joseph Biden nor Dick Cheney, the two vice presidents who preceded Pence, had one while in office. It’s not entirely unprecedented, though: George H.W. Bush formed the Fund for America’s Future when he was preparing for his 1988 presidential run.”
The Vice President is playing a leading role in passing legislation on the Hill,” said Nick Ayers, a senior adviser to Pence in the 2016 campaign who will be running the PAC. Ayers explained that the reason Pence is setting this up is because he “wants to support House and Senate members who are helping pass the president’s agenda.” Let’s be real: When was the last time you heard of Pence helping with anything?
Mike Pence is just waiting for Trump to completely fail (it may appear that he has so already) so that he can step up to the plate. The greedy politician’s main concern is to increase his war chest while he still has the chance. Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the Center for Responsible Politics, which studies money in politics says “launching a leadership PAC sometimes signals an intent to run for higher office” which is something Pence has been wanting to do since the very beginning. Although Trump’s impeachment would put an end to an ongoing horror movie, Pence’s presidency would begin another and the cycle of destruction would continue. Can America catch a break?
