On Wednesday, at the United States Coast Guard commencement, Donald Trump decided to make the moment about himself instead of those who were graduating.

    Trump said:

“Look at the way I have been treated lately, especially by the media. No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly. You can’t let them get you down, you can’t let the critics and the naysayers get in the way of your dreams.”

He then went on to bash his critics. And not only is what he said inaccurate, but it’s absolutely inappropriate for this occasion.

Remembering a better time with a better president who actually behaved like an adult, former White House photographer Pete Souza posted a photo to Instagram recalling what former President Obama said when he spoke at a Coast Guard commencement.

    Souza posted:

“President Obama at the Coast Guard Academy in 2015: “That’s why confronting climate change is now a key pillar of American global leadership. When I meet with leaders around the world, it’s often at the top of our agenda — a core element of our diplomacy. And you are part of the first generation of officers to begin your service in a world where the effects of climate change are so clearly upon us. It will shape how every one of our services plan, operate, train, equip, and protect their infrastructure, their capabilities, today and for the long term.””

Those were definitely better times. Thank you, President Obama for being an adult and speaking with such compassion and gratefulness.

And thank you, Pete Souza, for reminding us that we haven’t always had an immature, naive, narcissistic, and grotesque man in the Oval Office.
