Donald Trump continues to fight fire with idiocy. This evening, Trump called one of America’s most popular Senators “Pocahontas”, in a statement that managed to be racist, sexist, and pathetic all at the same time. Senator Warren, a favorite for the 2020 race, has taken Trump to task since his primary candidacy. Tonight, when asked about Warren’s prospects as a Democratic candidate, Trump responded:
“I think she’d lose so badly…I think she hurt Hillary Clinton very badly. I watched those speeches – the anger, the hatred, in her heart – and I said, ‘Ya know, she’s really bad for Hillary….Pocahontas would not be proud of her as her representative, believe me.”
The charismatic Senator recently received viral amounts of support and attention for reading Coretta Scott King’s eloquent dissent against Jeff Sessions in the Senate. Mitch McConnell’s attempted repudiation of her bravery backfired quickly, with his warning- “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”- resounding across social media like a rallying cry. With the popularity of Bernie Sanders still ringing clearly in everyone’s memory, it seems foolish that Trump would challenge Warren. An eloquent populist with a strong legislative record and a powerful rhetorical voice, Elizabeth would give the Donald a run for his dishonestly earned money. Then again, as a man who doesn’t seem to want to be President anyways, maybe that’s exactly what he’s counting on.
