If most of us were to wager a guess, it would have been that Donald Trump would be taken down long before his bland Vice President, Mike Pence, but evidence suggests that Pence knew about Michael Flynn’s Russian connections before the nation knew and he said nothing. Of course, neither did Donald Trump.
According to two White House sources and as told to NBC, Pence was told of the Justice Department warning regarding Flynn, who was by then the National Security Advisor, on February 9th. Trump was told in January.
Flynn’s actions as President Donald Trump’s short-lived national security adviser are under scrutiny after he resigned Monday night over phone calls he shared with Russia’s ambassador to the United States in December — before Trump took office. Among the topics discussed included U.S. sanctions imposed by the Obama administration against Moscow for its alleged role in the 2016 presidential election.
While Pence seemed to be kept in the dark, Trump was first told about Flynn’s phone calls almost three weeks ago, a White House spokesman said Tuesday.
Former Acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, warned the Trump administration that Flynn may have warned Russia before the Obama administration issued sanctions. Instead of acting on it, Trump fired Yates, allegedly over her refusal to defend the administration against their unconstitutional Muslim ban. Now it’s looking like that’s not the only reason she was fired.
Still, Pence claimed ignorance:
He had been at the center of mounting controversy over the past several days in regard to his contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Following initial reports in early January that Flynn was in contact with Kislyak and spoke to him about US sanctions, Vice President Mike Pence offered a robust defense of the incoming national security adviser. He said in nationally televised interviews that he had spoken with Flynn and that Flynn had ensured him he had not spoken about sanctions with the Russian ambassador.
Flynn, in his resignation letter, said he inadvertently briefed Pence and others with “incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador.” In other words, Pence didn’t have the complete picture, and he was intentionally misled, for 11 days. That means he kept it secret for most of a week.
It’s increasingly clear that there are very few innocent parties in the Trump administration. They are fully willing to sell our country out, whether it’s over fears of Russian blackmail or simply the desire to further enrich the super rich. The Trump administration is evil and starting by impeaching Pence (who will be easier to impeach but evidence will come out that will implicate Trump) is a good way to go. Pence is more than just an anti-gay, anti-woman, right-wing nut job. He’s as dangerous as his boss. His loyalties are not to the Constitution.
