President Donald Trump was livid with the FBI and its director James Comey during the presidential campaign because in his strange mind, Comey should have prosecuted Hillary Clinton over her email server. The attacks against the intelligence community have been in Trump’s rhetoric since the beginning of his campaign for the presidency. However, Trump appears to have warmed up to Comey since his bizarre decision to reopen the Hillary email investigation just days before the election. Comey’s decision has been cited as being instrumental in tilting the election in Trump’s favor. Thus, it appears that Comey is in Trump’s good graces. Here’s what the New York Times just reported:
“The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, told his top agents from around the country that he had been asked by President Trump to stay on the job running the federal government’s top law enforcement agency, according to people familiar with the matter. A decision to retain Mr. Comey would spare the president another potentially bruising confirmation battle. It also would keep Mr. Comey at the center of the F.B.I.’s investigation into several Trump associates and their potential ties with the Russian government.”
Isn’t there a huge conflict of interest here? So this man, who just got to keep his high profile job, is supposed to lead an investigation of the very man who let him keep his job? Just odd. Mr Comey himself is also under investigation:
“The Justice Department’s inspector general is investigating Mr. Comey’s handling of the Clinton email case, including both his decision to discuss it at a news conference and to disclose just days before the election that he had new information that could lead him to reopen it.”
it’s a bizarre story all around. In the mean time however, all appears to be jolly between Trump and Comey. When the two saw each other at an event honoring law enforcement at the White House, Trump said to Comey:
“Oh, there’s Jim, he’s become more famous than me.” You can’t help but be disgusted at the power play going on here.
