As if President-elect Donald Trump didn’t already get bashed enough over Twitter for his ridiculous attack on award-winning actress Meryl Streep after she destroyed him at the Golden Globes, fellow celebrities are coming forward in her defense.
Early Monday, Trump had tweeted that Streep was “overrated” because she’d dared to call him out for his bigotry and for making fun of a reporter with a disability. Trump has denied mocking the reporter, even though that moment that has been caught on film and is truly horrifying to watch. Attacking Streep, he tweeted:
“Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never “mocked” a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him “groveling” when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”
It turns out, going after Meryl Streep is a BIG mistake. Not only was Streep’s anti-Trump speech widely supported, but the rest of Hollywood loves her and has rushed to come to her defense. One of those A-listers is Ben Affleck, who shut Trump down on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. Affleck showed just how stupid Trump’s comments were when he said:
“If there’s one thing we know is true, it’s that Meryl Streep is NOT overrated!”
Affleck elaborated, stating that calling Streep “overrated” is like saying Gandhi was “a terrible leader.” He told Trump:
“Pick a better shot rather than the person whose photograph actually accompanies ‘Great Actress’ in the Encyclopedia.”
You can watch this brilliant moment below:
Affleck is absolutely right. Trump couldn’t hit back at Streep, because she was right in her criticism of him. The only thing he could do was make up a lie to help drown out his insecurities. Trump is being abandoned by Hollywood more and more every day, and he’s far along the path of being the most hated President in history.
