After all the moaning, whining and fear mongering that President-elect Donald Trump did throughout his presidential campaign about voter fraud and the election being “rigged”, it turns out he was right…sort of. In a way, the election was “rigged”- in his favor!
Earlier this week, it was discovered that major discrepancies were found in three precincts in Wisconsin, with the number of votes cast exceeding the actual number of ballots that were submitted. In a swing state, this could absolutely change the outcome of the election’s results.
It was reported that four wards in Outagamie County – The Towns of Cicero and Grand Chute along with the Villages of Bear Creek and Hortonville – suffered from this discrepancy. Lynn Mischker, the Village Clerk-Treasurer explained:
“In order to give election returns to the Outagamie County Clerk’s office as quickly as possible the Chief Inspector added together the votes from the election machine tapes. An error was made while keying the numbers on the calculator during this process resulting in an incorrect number of votes reported on Election night.
The official process of tallying the votes was completed and rechecked. These vote numbers were recorded and delivered to the Outagamie County Clerk’s office the morning of November 9th. The official tally reflects the accurate votes in the Village.”
Mischker also explained that because the county lacks the newer voting machines that others have, mistakes can sometimes occur due to human error, since the results are not reported electronically. However, Mischker’s words can’t be taken for truth considering that Hillary Clinton’s votes didn’t change – only Trump’s did.
As more discrepancies are uncovered and Green Party candidate Jill Stein pushes for the votes to be recounted, we might see that Clinton did far better in not only the popular vote, but in the electoral college.
Either way, Americans deserve a fair election, and if mistakes were made they must be exposed.
