In a campaign where nationalism and xenophobia are reminiscent of Nazi Germany, one key ingredient has seemingly been missing. Donald Trump has propelled himself to the top of the GOP ticket by belittling Mexicans, immigrants, women, African-Americans and even military veterans and their families. Still, unlike Adolph Hitler, Trump has said very little about Jewish people. He hasn’t had to. All the people who hate Jews are rallying around the self-described billionaire. Still, Trump’s last campaign ad is a big ole’ gift to his alt-right supporters, wrapped up in a giant red bow.
The ad, which doesn’t specifically use the word “Jewish,” is a thinly coded anti-semitic attack on our institutions.
From a technical and thematic perspective it’s a well made ad. It’s also packed with anti-Semitic dog whistles, anti-Semitic tropes and anti-Semitic vocabulary. I’m not even sure whether it makes sense to call them dog whistles. The four readily identifiable American bad guys in the ad are Hillary Clinton, George Soros (Jewish financier), Janet Yellen (Jewish Fed Chair) and Lloyd Blankfein (Jewish Goldman Sachs CEO).
The Trump narration immediately preceding Soros and Yellin proceeds as follows: “The establishment has trillions of dollars at stake in this election. For those who control the levers of power in Washington [start Soros] and for the global [start Yellen] special interests [stop Yellen]. They partner with these people [start Clinton] who don’t have your good in mind.”
For Blankfein: “It’s a global power structure that is responsible for the economic decisions that have robbed our working class, stripped our country of its wealth and put that money into the [start Blankein] pockets of a handful of large corporations [stop Blankfein] and political entities.”

Here’s the video:
This isn’t the first all-out attack on Jewish people from the Trump campaign. His campaign manager, Steve Bannon, is anti-semitic. Trump and his supporters have regularly targeted Jewish reporters with harassment and worse. One of his supporters was caught chanting “Jew-S-A” at a campaign rally. The campaign feigned offense at the supporter’s chant, but within days, released this video. Still, despite the fact that Trump has insulted literally everyone but straight white men who haven’t served in the military, he’s a hair’s breadth from being our next president. If that doesn’t scare you, nothing will.
