An armed Donald Trump supporter in Virginia was caught on video on Friday harassing a woman and her young son at a polling place.
“I had to explain to my 9-year-old why a man with a 357 magnum is standing outside the polling station,” she told the Huffington Post. “I felt intimidated.”
Cotti said the man in a Donald Trump shirt was on the sidewalk just in front of the voting location, where residents can submit absentee ballots in person because Virginia does not have early voting.
“He’s like, ‘Who are you going to vote for, crooked Hillary?’ And I was like, that’s really none of your business,” Cotti said.

Police were called but no charges were filed because Virginia is an open carry state and the man was observing the 40-foot no canvassing zone near the entrance.
“They said that there’s nothing they could do, that he was well within his rights to be carrying his weapon,” Brown said.
Judy Brown, the Loudoun County registrar, did intervene a little. She asked the man to pull his shirt down so people wouldn’t be able to see the gun. He did.
The Republican party in Loudoun County had a slightly different view, obviously. Chairman Will Estrada said the man was former law enforcement and a veteran.
“It’s a free country,” Estrada said. “I’m a NRA life member myself. So long as no laws are being broken, I’m not going to tell someone they can’t. But I’ve told all of our volunteers that we’re here for our candidates, we don’t want us to become the story.”
While most political campaigns get ugly, this year has been something almost never seen in the history of the American republic. Not only do Trump supporters (and Donald Trump) think Trump should win the election, they think that if Trump doesn’t win, it means that it was stolen from them, likely by everyone that Donald Trump has alienated throughout the past year and a half. That fact, along with the fact that Trump himself has promoted violence on many occasions, shows why guns near polling places should be illegal, regardless of whether it’s an open carry state or not.
Imagine too, if instead of a white former law enforcement officer and military veteran, the man outside the Loudoun County polling location was a Black Panther or a Black Lives Matter protester. Actually, you don’t have to imagine. In 2012, the right freaked out when a few people from the New Black Panther Party dared show up at a polling site in Pennsylvania. There were no reports of the men being armed, despite the fact that open carry is for the most part legal in Pennsylvania, but still, Republicans complained of voter intimidation. Apparently, it’s not intimidation of the people are white.
