With FBI Director James Comey delivering a letter to Congress that was subsequently released it has raised a lot of eyebrows that he may be trying to tip the scales of the upcoming presidential election. And while that may not be his intent, further action, or rather inaction from Comey also insinuates he’s definitely picking a side of this election to stand on.
Comey delivered a letter saying that the FBI was looking into emails found on a device that was shared between Hillary Clinton’s top aide Huma Abedin and her estranged husband Anthony Weiner. Apparently, the FBI found the emails while investigating Weiner and Comey thought it wise to, without any details, disclose this vague information to Congress, thus making everyone speculate about what may be found only days before the election.
All the while Comey is delivering this bit of information which is undoubtedly damaging to the Clinton campaign, he is simultaneously keeping information regarding Russian involvement in U.S. elections. Why? Because it may interfere with the election.
If that doesn’t make any sense to you, it’s because it doesn’t make any sense.
According to CNBC:
“FBI Director James Comey argued privately that it was too close to Election Day for the United States government to name Russia as meddling in the U.S. election and ultimately ensured that the FBI’s name was not on the document that the U.S. government put out, a former bureau official tells CNBC.
The official said some government insiders are perplexed as to why Comey would have election timing concerns with the Russian disclosure but not with the Huma Abedin email discovery disclosure he made Friday.”
However, the Department of Homeland Security and The Office of the Director of National Intelligence did release this statement:
“The U.S. intelligence community is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of emails from U.S. persons and institutions, including from U.S. political organizations. … These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the U.S. election process.”
Why is Comey playing politics? He clearly is releasing information that could be very damaging to Clinton, all the while not releasing information that shows Russian involvement in our elections. Russian involvement that, through increased evidence, has shown to favor Donald Trump. It’s abundantly clear that Russian President Vladimir Putin would love to have Trump as president, and it’s not for Trump’s ability to lead, but rather his lack thereof.
Senator Harry Reid said to Comey in a letter:
“Through your partisan actions, you may have broken the law… In my communications with you and other top officials in the national security community, it has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisers and the Russian government. The public has a right to know this information.”
Which is absolutely right.
Comey needs to come out with the information he has regarding Russian involvement in our politics no matter what. By withholding information, he is keeping people in the dark and subsequently aiding Russia and Trump, because people will not have the information needed to make a proper choice. It is information that the American public, and the entire world, should be privy to. And to withhold it citing the election as a reason all the while releasing vague and damaging information about Clinton isn’t only partisan, it could very well be illegal, and he needs to be held accountable.
