It can be said that former Late Show host David Letterman was an equal opportunity comedian. By that, it means that he made fun of everybody. Over the years he’s gone after all politicians, including Hillary Clinton.

However, now, it seems his focus is on Donald Trump running for president, something he believed the reality television host would ever get close to actually becoming.

When the New York Times Dave Itzkoff caught up with Letterman he found out the absolute truth regarding the former Late Show host’s feelings towards Trump.

    Letterman told Itzkoff:

“I’ve known Donald Trump for a long time, and I always thought he was exactly what New York City needed to have: the big blowhard billionaire. “By God, I’m Donald Trump, and I date models, and I put up buildings, and everything is gold.” Nobody took him seriously, and people loved him when he would come on the show. I would make fun of his hair, I would call him a slumlord, I would make fun of his ties. And he could just take a punch like nothing. He was the perfect guest.”

He’s clearly not still able to take a punch seeing how he reacts to the subtlest of jabs these days with a Twitterstorm to compete with the most horrific of hurricanes ever.

Letterman then described his feelings towards Trump running for president:

“He goes after immigrants and how they’re drug dealers and they’re rapists. And everybody swallows hard. And they think, oh, well, somebody will take him aside and say, “Don, don’t do that.” But it didn’t happen.”

And then regarding Trump going after a disabled reporter:

“If this was somebody else — if this was a member of your family or a next-door neighbor, a guy at work — you would immediately distance yourself from that person. And that’s what I thought would happen. Because if you can do that in a national forum, that says to me that you are a damaged human being. If you can do that, and not apologize, you’re a person to be shunned.”

Which should be the general reaction from anyone towards Trump mocking a disabled reporter.

Letterman was convinced Trump would never get elected, but explained how Trump has his staying power thus far:

“The thing about Trumpy was, I think people just were amused enough about him to keep him afloat in the polls, because nobody wanted the circus to pull up and leave town.”

Trump is good for business when it comes to reporting on his shenanigans time and time again. However, if Trump actually gets elected, many are going to be kicking themselves in the head for not putting a stop to his bullsh*t early on.

It was a great interview with great insight from a man who’s honestly always remained impartial. However, some on Twitter reacted with rage against Letterman for dare speaking the truth.

These people seem to want to attack Letterman for saying everything they don’t want to hear. And let’s also remember, Letterman was the guy to expose Trump for the outsourcer and fraud that he so very much is.

All in all, we should be thanking Letterman for speaking the truth despite any blowback and thank Dave Itzkoff for getting it all out there.
