Caitlyn Jenner still thinks Republicans care about people other than wealthy straight white men. This isn’t the first time Jenner has made headlines for her misguided political views, unwavering support for the Republican Party and its disgraced presidential candidate, Donald Trump. But judging from her comments in a recent interview with Stat, Jenner is even more misinformed about what’s currently going on in the GOP than ever before.
In the interview, Jenner spoke so highly of Trump and the GOP, it makes us question if she has been living under a rock and completely shut off access to any sort of news, social media or discussions about politics and the election. When asked about what issues are important for the transgender community right now, Jenner gave the GOP a baffling gold star. She said:
“I’m on the conservative Republican side. I’m not excited with what Obama has done to the economy, to our Constitution, all that kind of stuff. But as far as the transgender community, they’ve actually been very good.”
Jenner has been criticized for her support of the Republican Party before, and was even called out on her show I Am Cait for being ill-informed of the amount of hateful rhetoric and anti-trans bills the GOP has been throwing around over the past few months. But despite being confronted and further educated about how conservatives are not supporting trans rights, Jenner is still leaning right and supporting the party’s current presidential candidate. She gave Trump a big pat on the back:
“Everybody looks at the Democrats as being better with these issues. But Trump seems to be very much for women. He seems very much behind the LGBT community because of what happened in North Carolina with the bathroom issue. He backed the LGBT community. But in Trump’s case, there’s a lot more unknowns. With Hillary, you pretty much know what you’re gonna get with the LGBT community.”
There are so many things wrong with this statement, I don’t know where to begin. First of all, Hillary Clinton has been a big supporter of LGBT rights as of late. Second, although Trump has been far more respectful of trans rights than many conservatives and criticized the GOP’s recent anti-trans “bathroom bills”, he’s previously promised to appoint judges that would overturn the SCOTUS marriage equality ruling! How is that backing the LGBT community?!
Jenner’s comment about Trump being “for women” is perhaps the most surprising. Trump has time and time again exposed himself for being a true misogynist, and his terrible, endless track record for attacking, objectifying and stereotyping women follows him everywhere he goes. What’s even crazier is that Jenner is aware of Trump’s attacks on women. During an episode of I Am Cait, Jenner said that although Trump called Clinton a “f**king liar” and “political hack,” those comments don’t mean “he wouldn’t be good for women’s issues. I think he would be very good for women’s issues.” Is she serious?!
Jenner has been such a champion for the transgender community, it’s truly disappointing to hear her make these comments. But it’s clear that Jenner is pretty confused about what is actually going on in politics – and here’s an episode that proves it:
