Donald Trump’s speeches are usually pretty memorable to begin with. If the Republican presidential candidate doesn’t say something completely racist, misogynistic or do something to encourage his rabid supporters to be violent and beat up protesters, he’s sure to do something else that will have people talking. His speech on Tuesday was no exception.
Trump’s campaign event was at an industrial plant in Pennsylvania’s Rust Belt region, and his staff made a very interesting choice for a backdrop. For the entirety of Trump’s 30-minute self-promoting rant, he stood in front of an art installation that looked like a massive wall of garbage. Viewers noticed this ridiculous sight right away, and didn’t hesitate to point it out. It wasn’t long before people on social media were mocking The Donald and having a field day at the unfortunate but hilarious spectacle.
It turned out that the backdrop was so unbelievable and weird, it was downright distracting. No one was paying attention to the speech (which is fine, because nothing that Trump says is actually true anyway) – all anyone could talk about was the trash heap behind Trump!
Here are some of the best reactions to this strange phenomenon:
During his speech, Trump seemed absolutely unfazed by the garbage – it was like he didn’t even notice. It’s highly probable that Trump felt perfectly at home amongst rubble.
Although most were too busy laughing about Trump standing in front of trash, his rival and presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was paying close attention and didn’t hesitate to fact check whenever Trump told one of his lies. The former Secretary of State put Trump in his place when she tweeted this:
Trump’s speeches are trash, his events are trash, and his entire campaign is trash. This was perhaps the most natural setting for one of Trump’s speeches, and he seemed to fit right in.
