    LGBT, News, Politics

The Republican Party has been fighting tooth and nail to make sure that the LGBT community cannot have the same rights as the rest of heterosexual America, even though more and more Americans are openly LGBT than ever before. Their main target has always been preventing gay people from getting married, but once the SCOTUS decision to legalize gay marriage nationwide was settled, conservatives threw up their hands and decided they needed to adjust their focus. They set their sights on the transgender community, as it was underrepresented and didn’t have as much of a developed movement as gay rights.

Since then, the GOP has waged war on transgender people, creating ridiculous “bathroom bills” and trying to link them to horrific crimes such as child molestation (even though there’s never been a reported case in history). Basically, conservatives will do anything to avoid sharing bathrooms with someone who doesn’t fit their narrow-minded view of “male” and “female.” The war on trans people continues to get crazier as the days go by, and talk-radio host Laura Ingraham did a great job proving this on Wednesday. Solidifying the fact that Republicans can’t help but come up with batsh*t crazy solutions for their little problems, Ingraham actually said that if American conservatives didn’t want to share restroom with trans people, they should literally sh*t themselves. Ingraham said:

“I think a lot of people are going to be walking around with just Depends on from now on. They’re just not going to use the bathroom.”

As with any GOPer’s rant, it got more insane as it continued:

“Adult diapers, diapers for everybody. No one’s going to be going to the bathroom. You have little kids, there’s going to be no bathrooms. We’re just going to all wear Depends. Everyone will just be happy. Then you’ll be in your own bathroom. Everyone’s bathroom is just their own clothes, OK? So this is what we’re going to go to.”

What a disgusting, immature and completely unnecessary solution to something that isn’t even a problem. But that’s normal for Ingraham – she’s spoken out against trans rights before, previously stating that she’d never let her daughter inside bathrooms that are equal-access. She also said parents that accept their children for who they are and allow their kids to be themselves and express their true gender identity are guilty of “child abuse.” We could be wrong, but this fact alone probably reveals that Ingraham is a horrible parent. Fortunately, Medical and mental health experts weren’t afraid to call her out and set the record straight: Ingraham’s perspective on this is “ignorant” and “dangerous.”

Clinical psychologist and head of the University of California-San Francisco’s Child and Adolescent Gender Center Diane Ehrensaft said:

“If we do nothing for these children, just let them be children, as Ingraham suggests, we are actually doing something, and that something is not good: we put them at risk for anxiety, depression, poor school performance, and later–drug abuse, self-harm, sexual acting out, suicidal thoughts, attempts, or completions.”

“Ingraham repeats what so many in my own field, mental health, have done to significantly harm gender-nonconforming youth: dismiss what they are trying to tell us, blame the parents who are trying to support them, and deny them adequate care in one fell swoop.”

Ehrensaft also said that adults like Ingraham, who don’t respect transgender children and the care that they need are actually the real child abusers. She said:

“We might even consider the denial of the service a form of child abuse, there’s a life jacket right there, we’re watching, and we’re letting the child drown.”

Boom. You can listen to Ingraham’s disgusting remarks below:
