In a stunning revelation, a man who claims he was the Orlando shooter’s lover said that people who are blaming Islam for the worst mass killing in the nation’s history, have it completely wrong about the killer’s motives. The man, who says he had several sexual encounters with Omar Mateen, cites that the killer was out for revenge and that the shooting was not motivated by Islam, as many Republicans, including presumptive nominee Donald Trump, have been saying.

The man, who did not want his true identity revealed for fear of reprisal, said that Mateen drank heavily and had a grudge against Latino men at Pulse, the club where the massacre occurred, because he felt used and mistreated.
“He adored Latinos, gay Latinos, with brown skin – but he felt rejected. He felt used by them – there were moments in the Pulse nightclub that made him feel really bad. Guys used him. That really affected him. I believe this crazy horrible thing he did – that was revenge.”
The man says that Mateen feared he was HIV positive after a sexual encounter with two Puerto Rican men, one of whom revealed that he was infected:
“He [Omar] was terrified that he was infected. I asked him, ‘Did you do a test?’ Yes. He went to the pharmacy and did the test … it came out negative but it doesn’t come out right away. It takes 4, 5 months. When I asked him what he was going to do now, his answer was ‘I’m going to make them pay for what they did to me.'”
The man says Mateen never revealed his name, only that he was married with a son, and that he was 35-years- old. They allegedly met 15-20 times, the last time in December.
The interview comes in the wake of other witnesses who’ve said that Mateen frequented the club on several occasions. Investigators continue to look into the motives of the killer.
“While we know a lot more about him in terms of who he was and what he did, I do not want to definitively rule out any particular motivation here.”
One thing we do know for sure is that when psychopaths like Mateen have unfettered access to assault weapons, bad things will happen. Yet, despite this truth, Republicans recently blocked gun control measures that would prevent such atrocities and instead blame Muslims, creating an environment of bigotry. The lack of logic and reasoning is puzzling.
